2014 EU repressed on 180g vinyl LP+DOWNLOAD-Saxophonist Sonny Rollins is hands down one of the most important jazz instrumentalists of the past 50 years and his 1956 hard bob Prestige release Plus 4 is not only regarded as one of his finest but essentially his first as a leader. The Plus 4 in support of Rollins' daring tenor saxophone work here are none other than Clifford Brown (trumpet), Richie Powell (piano), George Morrow (bass) and Max Roach (drums). Song selections include such groundbreaking Rollins originals as “Valse Hot" and “Pent-Up House” and well executed standards like “I Feel A Song Coming On” and “Count Your Blessings.” Plus 4 also marked the last full recordings for both Powell and Brown as they perished in a car accident just three months later.
