Sounds Of The Universe is one of Depeche's lower-key albums, but not without explosive or dramatic moments by any means. The sense of older styles and sounds - classic drum machines, early synthesizers, a rumbling bass undercarriage - serves new purposes. On the whole, Sounds Of The Universe is a grower, relying on a few listens to fully take effect, but when it does, it shows Depeche Mode are still able to combine pop-hook accessibility and their own take on "roots" music for an electronic age with sonic experimentation and recombination - not bad for a band with almost three decades under its collective belt.

Nearly four years since their last studio album, the groundbreaking, chart-topping legendary electronic muisc group Depeche Mode returns with their highly-anticipated and most eclectic and energized album in decades. Sounds Of The Universe finds Martin Gore, Dave Gahan, and Andy "Fletch" Fletcher back at the top of their game.

Sounds Of The Universe is a Violator for the 21st century. Infused with the band's enduring lyrical obsessions - lust, spirituality, romantic yearning, sinful temptation, and sado-masochism - plus more overt dark humor than their previous albums, the music blends modern electronic textures with sounds of analog synthesizers and vintage gear.
